The Fading Light

Purple light floods your vision.

You stand in the heart of Eldermoor, though you do not remember arriving. The town square pulses with life – lanterns strung between timber beams, the smell of roasted meat and spiced wine, the sound of a thousand voices raised in celebration.

A pedestal rises at the square’s center. Upon it rests a gem the size of a man’s fist, blazing with violet light so pure it hurts to look at. The crowd parts around you with reverent whispers. You realize you are walking toward the pedestal. You realize you are not alone.

Three figures wait for you there.

A woman in robes of midnight blue, silver threads woven through her dark hair. Her eyes hold the weight of forbidden knowledge. Seraphine.

A broad man in cloth-of-gold, rings glittering on every finger, his smile too wide and too hungry. Aldric.

A slender figure wrapped in living vines, flowers blooming in her footsteps, her gaze soft as spring rain. Thornwen.

They turn to you. The crowd falls silent. Seraphine speaks first, her voice carrying across the square:

“Today, we forge something eternal. Four minds. Four pillars. One Eldermoor.”

Aldric laughs, clapping you on the shoulder. “And what a fortune we’ll make of it, eh Varek?”

Thornwen says nothing. She only watches you with those too-knowing eyes.

The gem pulses. You feel its light inside your chest, warm and welcoming. You step forward with the others, reaching toward the crystal together. Your hand touches the gem alongside theirs.

Unity. Purpose. Eldermoor.

The crowd erupts in cheers. You are a founder. You are beloved. You are home.
