The Sacrifice

A figure places their hand on the gem's surface and transforms into light, their consciousness flowing into the crystal as the protagonist watches, devastated, and Seraphine manifests fully behind them.

The barrier is down.

The gem rises before you, its light stronger now that the relics have touched it. But it’s still wrong—still flickering, still fighting against whatever Varek has done to it.

You can feel Seraphine inside. Struggling. Waiting.

The sacrifice stands beside you.

The sacrifice stands beside you.
You want to say something. Thank them. Talk them out of it. Tell them there has to be another way. But you’ve been through this. You’ve argued. You’ve searched for alternatives. There are none.
They know it too.
“I’m not afraid,” they say, and you believe them. Not because fear is absent — you can see it in the slight tremor of their hands, the too-quick breathing — but because they’ve decided it doesn’t matter.
“You changed things,” they say. “Before you, we were all just… waiting. For someone else to fix it. For the gem to save us. For the founders to come back.” They look at you. “You made us believe we could do something.”
“You’re doing something right now,” you say. Your voice breaks.
“I know.” They smile. “Don’t let it be for nothing.”
They place their hand on the gem.

“No. Not you. Not yet.”

“There’s another way. A harder way. But if you can reach Varek’s humanity—the soul he sacrificed to fuel the binding—you can break the cycle without becoming part of it.”

“You were created to end this. Not perpetuate it.”

Before you can respond, another ally steps forward—your original companion, Kira or Brother Aldous.

“Let me,” they say quietly. “You’re the only one who can face him. I’ve always known my role was to get you this far.”

*[For all paths:]*

The sacrifice places their hand on the gem.

Purple light blazes. The world holds its breath.

And then they’re gone.

Not dead—not exactly. Transformed. Their consciousness flowing into the crystal, taking the place that was waiting for them.

And from the gem, something rises.

Seraphine.

Not the translucent echo you’ve seen before. A full manifestation, as solid as flesh, glowing with inner light.

“It worked,” she breathes. Then she looks at the gem, at the presence now anchored within it. “Thank you. Thank you for giving me this chance.”

She turns to you, and her expression hardens.

“Varek is in the gem’s heart. Where my consciousness was trapped. He’s waiting for you.” She reaches out, her hands closing around yours. “The relics will protect you inside. The other founders will guide you. But the final choice…”

“Will be mine,” you finish.

“Yes.” She squeezes your hands. “Whatever you decide, whatever happens… thank you. For coming. For trying.”

“For everything.”

The gem’s surface ripples like water.

“Go,” Seraphine says. “Finish what we started.”

You step into the light.
